The Ottawa Hospital Cutting 3% of Staff in 2026, Nurses Mostly Affected
Is The Ottawa Hospital Cutting Jobs in 2026?
Yes — The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is eliminating approximately 3% of its workforce, or around 400 jobs, as part of a restructuring.
The move, which will mostly affect nursing staff, comes as the multi-campus academic health sciences centre grapples with substantial financial challenges.
Staff Protest Workforce Reduction
On May 5, 2026, dozens of health workers and supporters rallied in front of TOH’s Civic campus — calling on the provincial government to provide better support to struggling hospitals.
“It’s as if [the province wants] the system to fail,” Rob Gauthier, president of CUPE 4000, told the Ottawa Citizen.
