“Needs to be Banned”: Tanning Beds Triple Skin Cancer Risk, 2025 Study Finds

A recent study, published in the journal Science Advances, found that people who use tanning beds are nearly 3 times more at risk of getting skin cancer.

Pedram Gerami, a dermatologist and researcher at Northwestern University in Illinois, told AFP that he started looking into the effect tanning beds have on individuals after an “unusually” high number of younger women came into his clinic with multiple melanomas.

“At the very minimum, [tanning bed use] needs to be banned for minors,” he said in response to his findings.

For those who prefer the “golden look,” health experts recommend trying a spray tan or lotion instead.
