“A Big Deal”: Health Canada Approves Drug Capable of Slowing Alzheimer’s Disease

What Happened?

Health Canada has conditionally approved “lecanemab” — a drug that’s reportedly able to slow early-stage Alzheimer’s disease.

“If you think about the treatments we’ve had so far for Alzheimer’s disease, they’ve been directed at the dementia stage of the disease, where people are already dependent,” neurologist Dr. Sharon Cohen told CTV News.

“Now, we have something that goes much earlier in the disease…this is a big deal.”

The cost of the drug hasn’t been revealed, but experts claim it will be “substantial” for Canadians.
