Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with SUV at Centre and 12th Avenue NW in Calgary

What Happened

Calgary Police say the fatal collision occurred around 3:57 p.m. on Friday, August 15, at the intersection of Centre Street N and 12th Avenue NW.

• A 2004 Suzuki motorcycle was travelling northbound on Centre Street
• A 2002 Acura MDX SUV heading southbound turned left across its path
• The motorcycle struck the SUV, throwing the rider from the bike

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, but later died from his injuries. He was reportedly a man in his 60s.

The driver of the SUV was not injured and remained at the scene.

Road Closures and Investigation

Following the incident, 12th Avenue NW was closed at Centre Street in both directions as officers conducted their investigation.

Calgary police say that speed, alcohol, and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash. An investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing.
