- Termination after giving parental leave notice: Employers cannot penalize or terminate employees as a result of maternity or parental leave. It is considered a human rights violation and is not permissible. Employees that have been terminated as a result of parental leave are not only owed severance pay but probably additional damages.
- Refused overtime compensation by an employer: Employees that have worked over 44 hours of work during the week are owed overtime pay by their employers even if they were not initially approved to work overtime.
- Fired for taking a medical leave of absence: Once on a medical leave of absence, employees are on job-protected leave. Employees must be reinstated by their employer. Employers also have an obligation to accommodate all necessary medical restrictions needed by returning employees.
