What should you expect from a lawyer?

3:55 – Clients want lawyers to stop ignoring emails and phone calls. It seems to be a common practice that many lawyers don’t uphold decent customer service standards despite working in a service-based industry.

Am I obligated to communicate with my insurance company over the phone?

08:03 – Am I obligated to communicate with my insurance company by phone? They have threatened to cut off my payments if I don’t communicate with them by phone. I have asked if this is in my policy and they told me it was but have failed to show me where in my policy.

What can I do if my LTD was cut off as a result of a transferrable skills assessment from the insurer?

13:00 – My wife was told that her long-term disability payments will stop because a transferrable skill assessment that her insurer had her do concluded that she can do another job. They have cut off her LTD because they think that her condition is not that severe, but her doctor doesn’t think she can do any job. The adjuster said that she can appeal, but doesn’t think the insurer will change their mind. What do you suggest?

If I receive severance pay while on LTD will my insurer take the money?

20:05 – I’ve been on LTD for over a year and was let go from my job last month. I spoke to an employment lawyer and he told me he could get me a lot of severance because of my long employment with the company. I expressed concern because I have heard the show and remembered you had said severance payments can be taken by the insurance company, he said he had never heard that. Can you point me to where this is so I can show this lawyer?

Can I be cut off of my LTD if I don’t qualify for CPP?

25:20 – I’ve been on LTD for almost 2 years, my insurance company contacted me and told me I needed to apply for CPP. Do I need to apply for CPP? I thought my insurer was responsible for covering my disability leave. What if I don’t qualify, will they cut me off?

What do I need to do to prove my disability?

29:30 – I was denied LTD insurance because the insurance company says there is not enough medical evidence to prove that I qualify. I have MS and worked my entire life in sales, my condition is getting worse and I cannot continue to work. They say I am not totally disabled. What more do they need?

I was terminated while on short-term disability and was denied long-term disability is there anything I can do?

33:54 – My sister was on short-term disability because of severe asthma. She was recently let go from her job because her boss said they had to fill that position. She was denied LTD and now she has no money coming in, can you help her? I don’t know how long she can last without any income.

What should I do if my insurance company says I am not following reasonable treatments by following my doctor’s advice?

36:08 – I was on LTD for over a year before my insurance company said that I no longer qualify for payments. The insurance company said that I was refusing to take medications that the insurance company suggested, my psychologist agreed that I shouldn’t be on this medication but the insurance company says that I should be taking their suggestions. They said I wasn’t following reasonable treatments, how can that be if I am following my doctor’s orders?

What do I do if I was injured in an accident and can no longer work?

37:34 – A friend of mine was in a serious accident 4 months ago. He was cycling on the road in a bike lane when a car zoomed by and hit him. He flew and landed on his back. He was wearing a helmet but he still suffered very severe injuries and was taken to hospital. He had 3 surgeries so far on his back. He may not walk again. I’m afraid for him and worry that he’ll never fully recover. He’s only 42 years old and now he can’t work and needs someone to help him at home. What should he do?
