Sephton A. Leibbrandt is an Ontario employment lawyer and Associate with Samfiru Tumarkin LLP’s Labour and Employment practice group.
Working through the firm’s employment law services in Toronto and Ottawa, he regularly assists employees and employers across the province in all aspects of labour and employment law, including:
- Severance entitlements
- Without cause and for cause dismissals in Ontario
- Wrongful dismissals
- Constructive dismissals
- Workplace harassment and sexual harassment
- Discrimination at work
- Human rights issues
- Employment contract review and drafting
- Temporary layoffs in Ontario
- Employee misclassification
Sephton is a fearless and determined advocate — focused on securing favourable outcomes. His practice is dedicated to the vigorous pursuit of his clients’ best interests, whether it’s through informal negotiation or formal litigation.
Sephton has successfully appeared before various courts and tribunals, including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Small Claims Court, and the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.
In his spare time, Sephton enjoys hiking, kayaking, and travelling. He also has a keen interest in politics and world affairs.

Education
Sephton graduated from the University of Glasgow School of Law, where he completed his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with distinction. He was also a recipient of a £10,000.00 Excellence Scholarship, which recognizes exemplary academic performance.
Prior to law school, Sephton graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor’s (Hons.) and Master’s degrees in History from McMaster University.

Initiatives
Community work
Sephton is an active participant in the community. He is a member of First Book Canada, which is a not-for-profit combating illiteracy by providing books and educational resources to children in under-resourced communities.
He is also a passionate supporter of Indspire, which is a national charity committed to eliminating financial barriers to higher education for Indigenous youth.
Sephton has always been an emphatic voice for the fair, impartial, and just treatment of all — especially those most vulnerable in our society.
In appreciation of his enthusiasm for advocacy and dedication to academic excellence, he was chosen as an ambassador for the School of Law by his professors.
