Latest Boston Scientific Layoffs And Restructuring

Boston Scientific’s latest restructuring was approved in July 2026, with job cuts confirmed in October.

  • October 28, 2026: Boston Scientific confirmed that employees had begun receiving layoff notices. CEO Mike Mahoney acknowledged a meaningful workforce reduction but didn’t disclose the number of affected positions.
  • July 27, 2026: The company disclosed a global restructuring plan involving manufacturing transfers, operational changes and job reductions.
  • Through 2029: Boston Scientific expects to complete the restructuring, with changes rolling out across different facilities and business units.

According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, affected employees began receiving notices in late October.

Boston Scientific’s regulatory filing estimates US$700 million to US$800 million in restructuring costs, including US$275 million to US$300 million in employee termination benefits.

The company expects the restructuring to reduce annual expenses by approximately US$500 million. It hasn’t released a breakdown of Canadian job losses.

For Canadian employees, the important question is whether their severance package reflects everything they’re owed.

How Much Severance Does Boston Scientific Pay In Canada?

There is no single severance package that applies to every Boston Scientific employee. What you’re owed depends on your age, length of service, position, compensation and employment contract.

Non-unionized employees in Ontario, Alberta and BC can receive up to 24 months’ compensation. That’s often substantially more than the minimum amounts required under provincial employment standards legislation.

Your full compensation matters. A Boston Scientific severance package may need to include:

  • Base salary or regular wages during your notice period.
  • Bonuses, commissions and incentive pay that form part of your compensation.
  • Stock awards and other long-term incentives covered by your employment arrangements.
  • Health, dental and other employment benefits.

Long-serving employees, managers and specialized professionals may be owed substantially more than their employer’s initial offer.

What If Boston Scientific Offers You A Transfer Or Different Position?

Boston Scientific’s restructuring includes moving production lines between facilities and changing how certain teams operate.

You don’t necessarily have to accept a new role that significantly changes your employment.

A major pay cut, demotion, relocation or substantial change in responsibilities may amount to constructive dismissal.

However, refusing reasonable comparable work can affect your severance rights.

Get the proposed terms in writing before accepting or rejecting a transfer. Don’t resign without legal advice.

What If Boston Scientific Terminates You Outside A Mass Layoff?

You don’t need to be part of a major restructuring to qualify for severance.

If Boston Scientific eliminates your position or terminates you individually, you may still be owed compensation.

That includes employees working in manufacturing, engineering, research, sales, administration and management.

Even if the company says you were fired for cause, that doesn’t automatically mean you lose your severance rights. Poor performance or a single workplace mistake often isn’t enough to deny severance.

Your rights don’t disappear because your termination wasn’t part of a public layoff announcement.

What Should You Do Before Signing A Boston Scientific Severance Package?

  1. Get everything in writing. Keep your termination letter, employment agreement, compensation details and proposed release.
  2. Review your full compensation. Your severance may include bonuses, benefits and stock awards—not just salary.
  3. Have your package checked. An employment lawyer can explain what you’re owed and whether there’s room to negotiate.

⚠️ A Signing Deadline Doesn’t End Your Rights. Boston Scientific may give you a deadline to accept its severance offer, but that’s different from the legal deadline to pursue compensation. Signing a valid release typically prevents you from seeking more. Get advice before signing.
