The Definitive Answer: Parental & Paternity Leave

In Alberta, parental leave is a 62-week unpaid period available to both birth and adoptive parents. While many people search for “paternity leave,” it is legally part of this 62-week parental entitlement.

Dads and non-birth parents have the same job protection as birth mothers. Your employer must return you to your same (or a comparable) job when your leave ends.
