Ex-Smokers, Beware: 2026 Study Finds Link Between Vaping & Lung Cancer
Thinking about using a vape to quit cigarettes? A major study out of Seoul National University in South Korea found individuals who did this had a more than 50% higher chance of developing lung cancer — compared to those who quit cold turkey.
“The study [which examined more than 4.5 million people] adds to the rapidly growing body of evidence that e-cigarettes are absolutely not as low-risk as initially claimed,” Becky Freeman at the University of Sydney told New Scientist.
Freeman, who wasn’t involved in the study, warns that e-cigarettes should only be used as a last resort for individuals who aren’t able to quit smoking.
The research team behind the findings noted that they weren’t able to prove vaping itself causes lung cancer — stressing the need for further studies involving people outside of South Korea.

Disability Benefits for Cancer in Canada
Cancer and cancer treatment can have a profound impact on an individual’s ability to perform their job duties — even with appropriate treatment.
For Canadians who aren’t able to work, short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) benefits can provide a crucial financial lifeline.
How These Benefits Help
- STD: Provides temporary financial support for individuals unable to perform their job duties.
- LTD: Offers income replacement for individuals unable to return to work for an extended period of time.
To qualify for STD or LTD benefits, medical documentation is essential to demonstrate how your condition prevents you from working.
Sadly, insurance companies often deny legitimate LTD claims — including in cases involving cancer — adding unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.
