Three injured after 2 vehicles crash into ditch on Hwy. 48 in Markham

A serious two-vehicle collision sent three people to the hospital after their vehicles crashed into a ditch in Markham on Friday night. The incident occurred on Highway 48 near Major Mackenzie Drive shortly after 11:30 p.m.
- Emergency responders arrived to find both vehicles off the roadway in a ditch.
- A male driver and a female passenger from one of the vehicles sustained life-threatening injuries.
- Both were transported to trauma centers for immediate medical care.
- The male driver of the second vehicle, identified as a Markham resident, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a nearby hospital.
Investigation updates
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. Authorities have not yet determined what led to the collision or whether any charges will be filed. All lanes of Highway 48 were closed north of Major Mackenzie Drive for several hours, reopening around 6:15 a.m. on Saturday.
