Three children, parents hospitalized after driver hits family in Etobicoke crosswalk
Incident details
A family of five pedestrians, including two parents and their three young children, was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Islington Avenue and Finchley Road in Etobicoke on Wednesday evening. The collision occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m., according to a news release from the Toronto Police.
- The driver, a 77-year-old woman, was traveling westbound on Finchley Road when she attempted to make a left turn onto Islington Avenue, heading south.
- During the turn, the driver hit the family, who were walking east across the crosswalk.
- The family sustained multiple injuries, with the 39-year-old mother being the most seriously hurt. She is currently in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
- The father, a 45-year-old man, and their three children—a four-year-old girl, a one-year-old girl, and a one-month-old boy—were also injured in the accident.
- All five were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigation update
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Investigators are asking for any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage of the incident to contact Toronto Police Traffic Services to assist with their investigation.
