Street racing stupidity: Driver charged after Hwy. 417 crash in Ottawa
Incident details
A driver has been arrested and charged following a single-vehicle collision on highway 417 in Ottawa’s west end.
- Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the crash west of Moodie Drive shortly before 7 p.m. on Oct. 20.
- “The collision occurred as a direct result of several vehicles racing along the highway,” OPP said in a news release.
- Ministry of Transportation cameras captured the group of vehicles travelling at high rates of speed from highway 417 to Terry Fox Drive.
- Ottawa paramedics also responded to the crash. However, no injuries were reported.
Investigation updates
The driver of the vehicle that crashed has been charged with stunt driving and careless driving.
A second individual was arrested at the scene and charged with obstructing a peace officer.
Anyone with information on the incident, including dashcam footage, is asked to contact the OPP.
