Statutory Holidays in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan’s Employment Standards Act (ESA) recognizes 10 public statutory holidays for employees working under provincial regulation. For statutory holidays, provincially regulated workers must receive a day off with pay from their employers.

Statutory holidays not observed by Saskatchewan

There are three holidays that are NOT statutory holidays in Saskatchewan: Easter Monday, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Boxing Day.

While provincially regulated employers in Saskatchewan are not legally required to give employees those days off, they can voluntarily choose to do so.

What happens if a stat holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday?

In Saskatchewan, if a statutory holiday falls on a Saturday, is not observed as a day off on another day.

However, if a statutory holiday falls on Sunday and the business is usually closed that day, the day off with holiday pay occurs on the following Monday.

  • Example: If you usually work Monday to Friday and July 1 is on a Sunday, your employer may give you Monday, July 2 off with holiday pay.
