OPP Officer Dead Following Hwy. 401 Motorcycle Crash in Cobourg
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a motorcycle crash on Highway 401 in Cobourg — a community east of Oshawa — that claimed the life of an officer on April 27, 2026.

What Happened?
- The incident took place in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Burnham Street North shortly after 5:30pm ET on April 27.
- Officials have confirmed that the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
- “The OPP is assisting the member’s family as they deal with this tragedy. We acknowledge the significant impact of this tragic loss and extend our thoughts to everyone affected by this devastating incident,” provincial police said in a news release.
- Photos of the scene captured damaged OPP vehicles near the motorcycle crash in what’s believed to be a secondary collision. No injuries have been reported at this time.
