What Happened At Neo Financial?

Neo Financial eliminated 102 positions on September 8, 2026 as part of a significant company-wide restructuring.

CEO and co-founder Andrew Chau told employees that Neo’s rapid growth had increased complexity and slowed the organization. The company said it now intends to operate as a simpler and faster team while concentrating resources on fewer products and priorities.

Neo said affected employees will receive severance, extended benefits coverage and career-transition support. Reporting also indicates that employees who had not yet reached an equity vesting cliff would have that requirement waived.

Who Is Affected By The Neo Financial Layoffs?

The 102 layoffs affect employees across nearly every part of Neo Financial.

The company has not published a complete list of affected roles or departments. The scale of the reduction — approximately one in every 10 employees — makes this a company-wide restructuring rather than a change limited to one team.

Neo has also not publicly provided a breakdown of how many employees were affected at each of its offices.

What Do The Neo Financial Layoffs Mean For Employees?

Neo Financial employees who lose their jobs should have their severance packages reviewed before signing a release.

Neo Financial is a company with offices in Calgary, Winnipeg and Toronto. The company has confirmed that affected employees are receiving severance, but the fact that a package has been offered does not determine whether it represents an individual employee’s full legal entitlement.

For a non-unionized employee, severance can depend on factors such as age, length of service, position and compensation. The minimum amount required by employment standards law is not necessarily your full severance, and some employees can receive as much as 24 months of compensation.

You don’t need to calculate that amount yourself. The important thing is to have the offer reviewed before you sign it.

What Should Neo Financial Employees Do?

Don’t sign a Neo Financial severance package until you know whether the offer is fair.

Get your termination letter and complete severance offer in writing, and have the package reviewed before agreeing to a release.

⚠️ A short deadline to sign a severance offer does not erase your rights. Once you sign a release, however, you usually can’t ask for more.

Getting answers does not mean committing yourself to a lawsuit or a long legal battle. The first step is simply finding out what you are owed and what options are available.
