Motorcyclist, 29, seriously hurt after Hwy. 401 collision in Pickering

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after colliding with the rear of a tractor-trailer on Highway 401 in Pickering.
- The incident took place in the eastbound express lanes of the highway around Kingston Road before 1:45 a.m. ET on April 18.
- “Witnesses reported two motorcycles travelling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. The second rider did not stop,” Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
- Photos of the scene show a blue motorcycle resting on the right shoulder of the highway — with some liquid visible in the right express lane.
- Paramedics told CityNews Toronto that the injured motorcyclist, a 29-year-old man, was thrown off his bike after colliding with the rear of a tractor-trailer and tumbled a fair distance.
- The eastbound express lanes of Highway 401 around Kingston Road were temporarily closed following the crash.

Investigation updates
The cause of the two-vehicle collision remains under investigation. Investigators believe speed was a factor.
