1 dead, several hurt after multi-vehicle Hwy. 11 crash north of Barrie

Incident details
One person is reportedly dead and approximately 11 people have been taken to hospital with varying injuries following a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 11 in the Orillia area — north of Barrie.
- Just after 9:20 a.m. ET on Feb. 7, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) posted on X (formerly Twitter) that southbound lanes of the highway between Old Barrie Road and Coldwater Road were closed for a multi-vehicle collision.
- According to CTV News, as many as 50 vehicles might have been involved in the crash.
- Orillia transit buses are being used to keep affected motorists warm and transport them to safety.
- Tow trucks are making their way to the area to recover vehicles that left the roadway and entered a ditch.
- “The City of Orillia is actively supporting emergency response efforts following multiple collisions on Highway 11 amid hazardous whiteout conditions,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

Investigation updates
The cause of the multi-vehicle collision remains under investigation. The Orillia area was under a snow squall warning at the time of the incident.
