What’s Happening in Hamilton?

Slate Asset Management (Slate) is looking to build a “world-class AI, advanced manufacturing, and clean infrastructure district” in Hamilton, Ont.

“The redevelopment of the [former Stelco lands we acquired in 2022] will bring new industry to Hamilton that will provide high-quality employment,” the Toronto-based private equity firm said in a recent news release.

“[It’s] projected to create up to 23,000 new jobs across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and inject up to $3.8 billion into Ontario’s economy over the next decade, according to an economic study conducted by EY.”

The City of Hamilton’s committee of adjustment is scheduled to hear an application from Slate about the 800-acre project, known as “Steelport,” on June 4, 2026.
