Google Confirms Voluntary Buyout Offers for Canadian Employees
Google confirmed on November 4, 2026, that it began offering voluntary severance packages to Canadian employees in June. The tech giant expanded its buyout program to Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Switzerland as it continues restructuring its workforce and investing heavily in artificial intelligence.
Google hasn’t disclosed how many Canadian employees received offers or accepted them. The company also hasn’t revealed the terms of its Canadian packages.
The expansion was confirmed in a Reuters report published November 4.
Offered A Google Buyout? Before You Sign, Always Check First.
Google’s first offer isn’t necessarily everything your employment is worth. Canadian employees should have their full compensation reviewed before agreeing to leave.
That includes salary, bonuses, restricted stock units (RSUs), stock options and benefits. Employees can negotiate their exit packages before signing a release.
A voluntary departure program gives employees the choice to accept compensation in exchange for leaving. Refusing a buyout doesn’t eliminate your future severance rights if Google later terminates your employment.
Non-unionized employees terminated without cause in Ontario, Alberta and BC can receive up to 24 months’ compensation.
