OPP investigating fiery tractor-trailer Hwy. 401 crash west of Kingston

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fiery collision involving two tractor-trailers on Highway 401 west of Kingston.

• Emergency crews responded to reports of a serious crash in the eastbound lanes of the highway near County Road 6 in Odessa just before 6 a.m. ET on Jan. 31.
• OPP shared a image of the scene on X (formerly Twitter). Smoke can be seen billowing into the sky from a damaged tractor-trailer.
• Only minor injuries have been reported. Police didn’t disclose if anyone needed to be transported to hospital for further assessment.
• Officials said the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 will be temporarily closed between County Road 6 and Gardiners Road as crews clean up debris.
• In an update just after 9 a.m. ET, OPP said “one westbound lane is being closed in the area to help clear the backlog of vehicles in the eastbound lanes.”

Investigation updates

The cause of the fiery two-vehicle collision remains under investigation. It’s unclear if charges are pending.
