3 Dead Following Serious Hwy. 17 Collision Northwest of Thunder Bay
3 people are dead following a serious collision on Highway 17 near Raith Ont. — a community northwest of Thunder Bay — on April 16, 2026.
What Happened?
- Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) shut down the highway between Shabaqua Corners and Ignace following the collision, which took place around 3:30am ET on April 16.
- “The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks has attended to assist in the investigation and remediation of a load spill which does not pose a significant risk to the public,” OPP said in a news release.
- Highway 17 was closed between Shabaqua Corners and Ignace for more than 24 hours.
