SIU: Driver critical after attempting to flee OPP north of London
Incident details
A collision in Arva, north of London, involving a driver that attempted to evade an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer has left three people hurt.
- Just before 11 p.m. on Nov. 30, an OPP officer tried to stop a motorist for a driving-related offence on Highway 4 near Medway Road.
- The driver, a man, failed to stop and collided with another vehicle on the highway near Croydon Drive. He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
- A man and woman in the other vehicle were also transported to hospital. The severity of their injuries remains unclear.
Investigation updates
Due to the OPP’s interaction with one of the motorists, the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has taken over the investigation into the crash.
The agency examines police conduct in incidents that result in death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm, or allegations of sexual assault.
