Driver, 25, charged after fleeing Kitchener collision with ‘young child’

A 25-year-old man from Durham Region is facing several charges in connection with a hit-and-run collision in Kitchener.

• The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) said in a news release that emergency crews responded to the area Fairway Road and the Highway 8 ramp around 8:50 p.m. ET on Nov. 23.
• “Upon arrival, first responders and witnesses observed a male exit one of the involved vehicles and flee into nearby field. The male was seen carrying a young child,” the release reads.
•  A ground search was completed by patrol officers, the Emergency Response Team, and the K-9 Unit. At the time, emergency crews didn’t know that another vehicle had picked up the man and the three-year-old child.
• Officers contacted the suspect on Nov. 24 and met with him in Waterloo Region.
• No physical injuries were reported for any of the individuals involved in the collision.

Investigation updates

The 25-year-old man has been charged with numerous Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences, including failure to remain at the scene of a collision.

Anyone with information on the incident, including cellphone or dashcam footage, is asked to contact police.
