Driver, 88, dead following Hwy. 48 collision in Georgina
Incident details
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 48 and Old Homestead Road in Georgina.
- OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said a vehicle, driven by an 88-year-old man, entered the intersection when it was struck by another vehicle.
- The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
- Schmidt said the driver of the other vehicle, a 36-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
- Highway 48 was closed between Ridgeview Road and Ellisview Road for several hours on Dec. 6.
Investigation updates
The cause of the two-vehicle collision remains under investigation. It’s unclear if charges are pending.
