Delivery truck driver dead after head-on Hwy. 5 crash southwest of Waterdown

Incident details
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fiery, fatal head-on collision involving a delivery truck and a tractor-trailer on Highway 5 in Hamilton — southwest of Waterdown.
- The incident took place on the highway between Millgrove Side Road and Rock Chapel Road around 9:30 a.m. ET on March 24.
- OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video on X (formerly Twitter) that a delivery truck, travelling westbound, crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided with a tractor-trailer hauling gravel.
- “The driver of the tractor-trailer was not able to avoid the collision. The driver of the smaller delivery truck was ejected in the head-on collision,” Schmidt explained in the video — adding that the delivery truck caught fire following the crash.
- The driver of the delivery truck, a 55-year old man from Brantford, was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported for the driver of the tractor-trailer.
- Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

Investigation updates
The cause of the fatal two-vehicle collision remains under investigation.
