5 people hurt following head-on Hwy. 15 crash north of Elgin

Incident details
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges following a serious head-on collision on Highway 15 near the village of Elgin.
- The incident took place on the highway, south of County Road 42, before noon ET on May 2.
- OPP said both drivers were rushed to hospital in critical condition following the crash. Three passengers, which includes an infant, are in stable condition.
- A photo of the scene shows a damaged green sedan on the side of the road and a damaged silver sedan in the ditch below the vehicle.
- Highway 15 was closed for several hours in both directions between County Road 42 and County Road 9.
Investigation updates
While driving-related charges are pending for one of the motorists, one of the passengers — a 39-year-old from Ottawa — has been charged with obstructing a police officer, possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and assault.
“The [individual] refused to provide their identity following a legal demand. During a vehicle search, members of Leeds OPP located a knife, approximately eight grams of suspected cocaine, and other items often related to drugs,” the OPP said in a news release.
The 39-year-old is scheduled to make a court appearance on June 13.
