3-vehicle crash on Hwy. 401 hospitalizes 6, driver facing charges

A three-vehicle collision occurred late Tuesday night on Highway 401 in Toronto, resulting in six people being taken to the hospital. The accident took place around 11:30 p.m. in the westbound collector lanes, just west of Avenue Road.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed the incident and the involvement of multiple vehicles.

Victim information

Toronto Paramedic Services reported that five individuals were transported from the scene.

• One adult was taken to a trauma center in stable condition
• Four others were sent to a local hospital for assessment.
• Two of those injured were children.
• The current condition of all patients is stable, according to the paramedics.

Investigation

Following the collision, the westbound collector lanes of Highway 401 were closed for several hours between Avenue Road and Allen Road. These lanes, along with surrounding ramps, have since been reopened.

The OPP has charged a 39-year-old man from Toronto, who was driving one of the vehicles involved. He is facing charges of careless driving and driving while prohibited under the Criminal Code. His vehicle has been impounded for 45 days, and he is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face these charges.
