1 Dead Following Canada Day Collision on Hwy. 401 East of Kingston

Incident Details
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal Canada Day collision on Highway 401.
- The incident took place in the westbound lanes of the highway between Mallorytown and Landsdowne — communities east of Kingston — around 5:30am ET on July 1.
- According to officials, a car came to a stop on the shoulder of the road. A person exited the vehicle and was struck by another vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 401.
- The individual, who OPP have decided not to identify, was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place in the near future.
- Officials didn’t disclose if the driver of the vehicle that struck the deceased remained at the scene.

The cause of the fatal collision remains under investigation. It’s unclear if charges are pending.
