Fender bender turns into armed carjacking in Pickering

Incident details

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is searching for suspects after a fender bender turned into an armed carjacking in Pickering.

• DRPS said in a news release that officers responded to the area of Taunton Road and Altona Road, east of Scarborough Pickering Townline, around 7:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 3.
• A vehicle, travelling westbound, was reportedly rear-ended by a black SUV with no front licence plate.
• “While checking for damage, the victim was approached by the passenger of [the black SUV] who pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded the keys to his vehicle. The suspect then got in the victim’s vehicle and fled westbound on Taunton. The [black SUV] also fled westbound on Taunton,” the release reads.
• No physical injuries have been reported at this time.

Investigation updates

In addition to the black SUV, investigators are looking for a male suspect, 5’9, with a slim build.

“He was wearing a black baseball cap, black medical mask, black puffer jacket, black cargo pants, and black shoes,” DRPS said in the release.
