OPP officer seriously hurt after Hwy. 401 crash west of Kingston

An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer has been taken to hospital following a collision on Highway 401 west of Kingston.
The incident took place in the westbound lanes of the highway near Newburgh Road in Napanee before 7 a.m. ET on Jan. 29.
- OPP said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the officer was struck by a passing vehicle while they were at the scene of an “earlier collision.”
- “The officer was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries,” the post reads. “The OPP has engaged support services for the officer’s family and detachment members.”
- The westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Newburgh Road were temporarily closed.

Investigation updates
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
