15-year-old dead, struck by ‘commercial van’ east of Kingston
Incident details
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in South Frontenac Township — east of Kingston.
The incident took place on Rosedale Road, north of the Village of Sydenham, around 5:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 4.
- OPP said a commercial van travelling along the road struck a 15-year-old who was walking in the same direction. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
- Another pedestrian was struck by the vehicle. They were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
- The driver of the commercial van, a 57-year-old man, remained at the scene. Police decided to test his blood alcohol concentration (BAC).
- Officials said the individual’s BAC came back in the “warning range” — meaning between 0.05 and 0.079.
Investigation updates
The operator of the commercial van received a three-day administrative driver’s licence suspension. The vehicle was also towed for further examination.
Anyone with information on the incident, including cellphone or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the OPP.
