Dump truck collision on Hwy. 48 in Brock claims life of 56-year-old
Incident details
A 56-year-old man is dead following a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a dump truck on Highway 48 in Brock Township.
The incident took place on the highway between Concession Road 14 and 17 Side Road in the afternoon on Dec. 16.
- Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the pickup truck, travelling eastbound on Highway 48, drifted into the westbound lanes and collided with the dump truck, which was transporting gravel.
- A photo of the scene shows the dump truck on its side in a ditch, surrounded by debris.
- The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
- OPP said the driver of the dump truck was taken to hospital. Their injuries aren’t considered to be life-threatening.
- “There is no indication the weather—environmental conditions—were a significant contributing factor,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a post on social media.
- Highway 48 was temporarily closed between Concession Road 14 and 17 Side Road.
Investigation updates
The cause of the head-on collision remains under investigation.
Anyone with information on the incident, including cellphone or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the OPP.
