Tomato fiasco: Tractor-trailer turnover causes Hwy. 401 turmoil in Kingston
Incident details
A tractor-trailer containing a load of tomatoes ended up on its side, closing a portion of Highway 401 in Kingston.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the incident occurred in the eastbound lanes of the highway near mile markers 606 and 607 just after 5 a.m. ET on Dec. 11.
- The driver of the tractor-trailer reportedly suffered minor injuries.
- “Crews are working to unload the cargo of tomatoes, which is quickly turning into tomato sauce,” OPP said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
- Highway 401 was temporarily closed from exit 599 (County Road 6 in Odessa) to mile marker 607, east of Gardiners Road.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
