Pedestrian dead, another hurt in Junction crash after car potentially ran red light

An empty intersection, typically used by cars, trucks, cyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians.

Incident details

A fatal collision occurred in Toronto’s west end on Monday evening, leaving one pedestrian dead and another injured. The crash happened shortly after 8:05 p.m. at the intersection of Annette Street and Pacific Avenue in the Junction neighbourhood.

  • Police believe one of the drivers may have run a red light, leading to the two-vehicle collision, which sent one vehicle onto the sidewalk where it struck the pedestrians.
  • Speed is also under investigation as a contributing factor.
  • A 45-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while an adult male pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. They were reportedly out for a walk at the time of the incident.

Investigation updates

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, with a potential red light violation and speeding being considered. Both drivers remained at the scene and are cooperating with police. Several witnesses attempted to provide life-saving aid to the woman, but she sadly succumbed to her injuries.

Toronto Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage to contact them.
