Danforth crash: Ford Model T hits bike lane, occupants ejected

A single-vehicle crash, involving a vintage Ford Model T hot rod, occurred on Danforth Avenue near Eaton Avenue in Toronto’s Greektown area on August 19th, just before 4 p.m.

• Witnesses observed the driver attempting to aggressively pass a small sedan before losing control of the vehicle.

Witness account

Local resident Zanne Fernwood, who was running errands on her motorbike, told CP24 that she witnessed the incident:

• According to Fernwood, the driver was traveling at approximately 65 kilometers per hour
• He swerved right, then sharply left, losing control and crashing into a pole and a CaféTO patio fence.
• Both the driver and a passenger were ejected from the vehicle, landing on the road and sidewalk, respectively.
• Miraculously, both individuals were able to walk away from the crash.

Fernwood described the scene as chaotic, with the vehicle’s gas pedal allegedly becoming stuck, causing the tires to spin uncontrollably until one burst into flames, filling the air with thick black smoke.

Victim information

One of the individuals involved in the crash was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Investigation updates

Following the crash, Danforth Avenue was temporarily closed from Pape Avenue to Woodycrest Avenue to allow for emergency response and cleanup. The road has since been reopened to traffic.

Toronto Police have not yet confirmed if charges will be laid against the driver as the investigation continues.
