Crash, fuel spill from tractor-trailer closes part of Hwy. 401
Incident details
A collision on Highway 401 in Toronto on Friday evening led to significant traffic disruption after a tractor-trailer spilled diesel fuel across the roadway. The accident occurred around 6 p.m. between Bayview Avenue and Yonge Street, causing the tractor-trailer to straddle the median between the express and collector lanes.
As a result, three express lanes and three collector lanes were closed while emergency crews managed the fuel spill and cleared the scene. The incident caused severe delays for eastbound traffic.

Reopening and cleanup efforts
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) officials worked through the night to address the spill and repair damage to the highway barriers. According to an update from the OPP early Saturday, the lanes were expected to reopen by around 9 a.m. MTO officials later confirmed that the highway had been cleared and traffic was once again flowing smoothly.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
