Facing a Layoff at Indeed? Know Your Options

On November 6, 2025, Business Insider confirmed that Indeed has laid off a “very small number of employees”, marking the company’s third workforce reduction in under two years.

The job-search giant said it made the decision to “better align [its] team structure with business priorities”, as parent company Recruit Holdings continues to reorganize operations amid the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).

This latest move follows major job cuts in July 2025, when Indeed and Glassdoor eliminated 1,300 roles across their HR technology division.

If you were affected by these layoffs — or work for Indeed in Canada and are concerned about your rights — here’s a full breakdown of what’s happened, why, and what it means for employees.

November 2025: Indeed Confirms Additional Role Eliminations

Business Insider reported that Indeed eliminated a small number of roles in early November, describing it as a “difficult decision” made to adapt to shifting business needs.

The company did not disclose how many employees were impacted, but stated its global headcount now sits at approximately 11,000.

“To better align our team structure with business priorities, we’ve reorganized several functions and made the difficult decision to eliminate a very small number of roles,” Indeed told Business Insider.

These changes come only four months after the company’s large-scale workforce reduction in July 2025, highlighting continuing restructuring under Recruit Holdings.

July 2025: 1,300 Jobs Cut at Indeed and Glassdoor

On July 11, 2025, Reuters revealed that Indeed and Glassdoor would cut 1,300 positions — approximately 6% of Recruit Holdings’ HR technology workforce — as the company accelerated AI integration.

Recruit CEO Hisayuki “Deko” Idekoba said that “AI is changing the world” and that the company needed to adapt quickly to deliver a better experience for job seekers and employers.

Key details from July 2025

  • Around 1,300 positions eliminated across multiple countries.
  • Cuts primarily affected research, development, growth, and people operations teams.
  • Glassdoor’s operations integrated into Indeed.
  • Executives including Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong and Indeed’s Chief People Officer LaFawn Davis stepped down.

Recruit reported that its HR technology segment employed roughly 20,000 people before the layoffs.

Why Indeed Is Making These Changes

Indeed’s CEO has consistently emphasized that the company is restructuring around artificial intelligence to improve product performance and competitiveness.

“Delivering on this ambition requires us to move faster, try new things, and fix what’s broken,” wrote Idekoba in a memo obtained by Business Insider.

Recruit Holdings has indicated that these actions aim to:

  • Reduce overlapping roles between brands,
  • Enhance efficiency across business units, and
  • Accelerate AI-driven development for its global hiring platform.

Impact on Canadian Employees

While the largest impacts have been in the United States, Canadian employees of Indeed may also be affected by these structural changes.

If you’re a non-unionized employee in Canada, you may be owed severance pay — up to 24 months’ salary — if your position was eliminated.

Your entitlement depends on several factors:

  • Length of service
  • Age and seniority
  • Type of role
  • Availability of similar jobs
💡 Tip: Use the Severance Pay Calculator to estimate what you’re legally owed before accepting any offer from your employer.
