PwC Canada Layoffs: Over 100 consultants cut in April
What’s happening at PwC Canada?
Samfiru Tumarkin LLP has learned that PwC Canada is reportedly undergoing a restructuring that includes laying off over 140 employees from its consulting division this week.
This follows a significant round of layoffs in November, where the professional services firm cut over 1,000 jobs globally, impacting many in Canada.
“Not fantastic packages”
In an interview with The Globe and Mail regarding the layoffs in late 2023, Fiona Martyn, an employment lawyer and associate at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP, described the severance packages offered to employees as “not fantastic” and below what they are legalled entitled to.
According to PwC Canada’s LinkedIn page, the company employs more than 5,000 individuals across Canada.
Termination agreements for PwC Canada employees
In Canada, non-unionized employees at PwC are owed full severance pay when they lose their jobs due to downsizing, corporate restructuring, or the closure of the business.
This includes individuals working full-time, part-time, or hourly in Ontario, Alberta, and B.C.
People working “on contract” or as a contractor may also be owed severance pay — given that many employees in Canada are often misclassified as independent contractors.
Severance can be as much as 24 months’ pay, depending on a number of factors.

The reported job cuts at PwC Canada come amid a flurry of layoffs in 2024.
