Hamilton residents forced to pay for sewage leak

The province of Ontario has filed charges against Hamilton for an expensive raw sewage leak at which is causing a lot of conflict within the city as to who is personally responsible for the leak and who should pay for it.

While there seem to be many possible options as to what happens next, ranging from the city of Hamilton having to pay a steep fine, to a possible settlement. Ultimately it appears what is decided in court could determine how city employees handle a crisis in the future.

Toronto employment lawyer and partner Jon Pinkus at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP spoke to the Hamilton Spectator of the ongoing dispute stating, “the standard required to hold an employee liable is extremely high,”.
