Latest Skydance And Paramount Layoffs
Skydance is reorganizing its workforce after combining Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery.
- October 26, 2026: Skydance announced a voluntary buyout program for selected employees and plans to introduce a five-day return-to-office policy.
- October 6, 2026: The Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery merger closed. Executives confirmed that workforce reductions would be part of integrating the businesses.
- October 2025: Paramount Skydance eliminated approximately 1,000 positions during an earlier restructuring.
The company is targeting more than US$6 billion in annual cost savings over three years. It hasn’t announced a final layoff total.
According to the Los Angeles Times, eligible employees will receive individual buyout offers outlining their departure terms.
For Canadian employees, the important question is whether those terms reflect everything they’re owed.
How Much Severance Does Skydance Or Paramount Pay In Canada?
There is no single severance package that applies to every Skydance or Paramount employee. What you’re owed depends on your age, years of service, position, compensation and employment contract.
Non-unionized employees in Ontario, Alberta and BC can receive up to 24 months’ compensation. That’s often substantially more than the minimum amounts required under employment standards legislation.
Your severance package may need to include:
- Salary or regular wages during your notice period.
- Bonuses, commissions and incentive pay that form part of your compensation.
- Stock awards and other long-term incentives.
- Health, dental and other employment benefits.
Long-serving employees, executives and specialized professionals may be owed substantially more than their employer’s initial offer.

Should You Accept A Skydance Voluntary Buyout?
Don’t assume a voluntary buyout is the best severance package you’re entitled to receive.
Reports indicate that the standard buyout offers some employees two weeks’ pay per year of service, with a November 8, 2026 deadline to accept. Individual offers may differ.
For Canadian employees, that formula may fall well short of their full legal severance entitlement.
Accepting a buyout and signing a release can prevent you from pursuing additional compensation. Refusing an offer can also have consequences depending on what happens next.
Have the offer reviewed before making a decision. A company-wide formula doesn’t determine your full legal rights.
What If Skydance Orders You Back To The Office?
Skydance is introducing a five-day in-office requirement across its operations, with implementation expected to vary by location.
A major change to your established working arrangements can affect your employment rights.
If you’ve worked remotely for years, a mandatory return involving a substantial commute or other significant changes may amount to constructive dismissal.
Your employment contract, previous arrangements and the nature of the change all matter.
Don’t resign or refuse a return-to-office instruction without getting legal advice first.
What If Skydance Terminates You Outside A Mass Layoff?
You don’t need to be part of a company-wide restructuring to qualify for severance.
If Skydance, Paramount or Warner Bros. Discovery eliminates your position or terminates you individually, you may still be owed compensation.
That includes non-unionized employees working in production, technology, marketing, sales, finance, administration and management.
Even if your employer says you were fired for cause, that doesn’t automatically mean you lose your severance rights. Poor performance or a single workplace mistake often isn’t enough to deny severance.
Your rights don’t disappear because your termination wasn’t part of a public layoff announcement.
What Should You Do Before Signing A Skydance Severance Package?
- Get everything in writing. Keep your termination letter, employment agreement, buyout offer and proposed release.
- Review your full compensation. Your severance may include bonuses, benefits and stock awards—not just salary.
- Have your package checked. An employment lawyer can explain what you’re owed and whether there’s room to negotiate.
⚠️ A Signing Deadline Doesn’t End Your Rights. Skydance may give you a deadline to accept a voluntary buyout or severance offer, but that’s different from the legal deadline to pursue compensation. Signing a valid release typically prevents you from seeking more. Get advice before signing.
