Latest SiteOne Landscape Supply Layoffs And Branch Closures

On October 28, 2026, SiteOne announced plans to reduce its workforce and consolidate or close branches during the fourth quarter.

The company cited weaker demand for residential construction and renovation, along with higher operating costs.

According to SiteOne’s third-quarter earnings announcement:

  • Workforce reductions: Job cuts are planned across the company, with the number of affected employees still undisclosed.
  • Branch closures: Some locations will close or be consolidated into other branches.
  • Restructuring costs: SiteOne expects charges of approximately US$6 million to US$8 million in the fourth quarter.
  • Canadian operations: SiteOne operates in Canada, but hasn’t identified any Canadian branches affected by the announcement.

The company reported higher overall sales and earnings for the third quarter, but weaker underlying demand. CEO Doug Black said SiteOne is working to improve productivity and reduce costs ahead of another challenging year.

For Canadian employees, the important question is whether their severance package reflects everything they’re owed.

How Much Severance Does SiteOne Pay In Canada?

There is no single severance package that applies to every SiteOne employee. What you’re owed depends on your age, length of service, position, compensation and employment contract.

Non-unionized SiteOne employees in Ontario, Alberta and BC can receive up to 24 months’ compensation. That’s often substantially more than the minimum amounts required under provincial employment standards legislation.

Your severance package may need to include:

  • Regular wages or salary during your notice period.
  • Sales commissions, bonuses and incentive pay that form part of your compensation.
  • Health, dental and other employment benefits.
  • Other compensation covered by your employment arrangements.

Long-serving sales representatives, warehouse employees, supervisors and branch managers may be owed substantially more than their employer’s first offer.

What If SiteOne Closes Your Branch?

A branch closure doesn’t eliminate your severance rights.

If SiteOne closes your location and ends your employment, you may be owed compensation based on your age, years of service, position and other circumstances.

Being told that your branch is closing doesn’t automatically mean you’ve received sufficient notice or severance.

Have your package reviewed before accepting an offer or signing a release.

What If SiteOne Offers You A Transfer?

SiteOne plans to consolidate some branches into other locations. Affected employees may be offered different positions or transfers.

You don’t necessarily have to accept a transfer that significantly changes your employment.

A much longer commute, major pay cut, demotion or substantial change in responsibilities may amount to constructive dismissal.

However, refusing reasonable comparable work can affect your severance rights.

Get the new terms in writing before accepting or rejecting a transfer. Don’t resign.

What If SiteOne Terminates You Outside A Mass Layoff?

You don’t need to be part of a major restructuring to qualify for severance.

If SiteOne eliminates your position, terminates you individually or makes significant changes to your job, you may still be owed compensation.

That includes employees working in sales, distribution, warehouse operations, administration and management.

Even if SiteOne says you were fired for cause, that doesn’t automatically mean you lose your severance rights. Poor performance or a single workplace mistake often isn’t enough to deny severance.

Your rights don’t disappear because your termination wasn’t part of a public layoff announcement.

What Should You Do Before Signing A SiteOne Severance Package?

  1. Get everything in writing. Keep your termination letter, employment agreement, commission plan and proposed release.
  2. Review your full compensation. Your severance may include commissions, bonuses and benefits—not just wages.
  3. Have your package checked. An employment lawyer can explain what you’re owed and whether there’s room to negotiate.

⚠️ A Signing Deadline Doesn’t End Your Rights. SiteOne may give you a deadline to accept its severance offer, but that’s different from the legal deadline to pursue compensation. Signing a valid release typically prevents you from seeking more. Get advice before signing.

Having your severance reviewed doesn’t mean taking SiteOne to court. We resolve the vast majority of severance disputes through negotiation.
