💡 Received a severance offer? The minimum amount required by employment standards law is not necessarily your full severance.

What Happened At East Side Games Group?

East Side Games Group announced a new round of cost reductions and operational restructuring that reduced its workforce by approximately 32%.

The company said approximately 30 employees were affected through a combination of layoffs and furloughs. The changes took effect September 1.

East Side Games Group said the workforce reduction and related operational efficiencies are expected to generate approximately $3.5 million in annualized cost savings, with most of the savings beginning in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The company is also reprioritizing its development portfolio by pausing or scaling back certain games and projects so it can focus resources on higher-performing and higher-potential titles.

Who Is Affected By The September 2026 Workforce Reduction?

East Side Games Group has confirmed that approximately 30 employees are affected, but it has not publicly provided a breakdown of the specific roles, teams or locations involved.

It is also important to distinguish between the two measures announced by the company. The approximately 30-person total includes employees affected by both layoffs and furloughs. East Side Games Group has not said how many employees fall into each category.

A furlough is different from a permanent termination. Employees who have been furloughed should understand exactly what changes are being made to their employment before agreeing to new terms or making decisions about their job.

What Does This Mean For East Side Games Group Employees In Canada?

Canadian impact has not been publicly confirmed. Although East Side Games Group is headquartered in Vancouver, the company’s September 3 announcement does not identify the locations of the employees affected.

If a non-unionized Canadian employee is terminated, their severance can depend on factors such as age, length of service, position and compensation. Employment standards minimums are not necessarily the employee’s full entitlement, and for some employees full severance can reach as much as 24 months’ pay.

You don’t need to calculate that yourself. The important first step is to have the complete severance offer reviewed before signing.

What Should East Side Games Group Employees Do?

If you’ve been laid off by East Side Games Group, get your severance offer in writing and don’t sign a release until you know whether the package is fair.

A short deadline from your employer does not mean you have to accept the package immediately. Having the offer reviewed is simply a way to find out what you could be owed and what your options are.

⚠️ Don’t sign first and ask questions later. Once you sign a release, you can’t go back and ask for additional severance.

Getting advice also doesn’t mean committing yourself to a long legal battle. Nearly all severance matters are addressed through negotiation without going to court.
