What’s Happening at Meta?
Meta announced on July 8, 2026 that it plans to build its first Canadian 1GW data centre in Sturgeon County, Alberta — a municipality north of Edmonton.
“The project represents an investment of more than $13 billion and will support over 3,000 construction workers at peak and more than 300 operational jobs,” the tech giant said in a news release.
“As part of this project, we’ll invest approximately $60 million in local infrastructure improvements that will benefit the local community, and provide grants and funding to local nonprofits.”
Meta added that the facility — the 33rd of its kind in the company’s global fleet — will “help power our AI innovations and core products.”
