Truck Driver, 27, Charged After Rear-Ending School Bus West of Sudbury
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges after a tractor-trailer rear-ended a school bus with its stop arm extended on Highway 17 in Spanish — a community west of Sudbury — on June 17, 2026.
What Happened?
- The incident took place just after 8am ET on June 17.
- Photos of the scene show significant front-end damage to the tractor-trailer and some damage to the rear of the school bus.
- “There were no reported injuries to the 26 students on board the bus, the bus driver or to the CMV driver,” OPP said in a news release.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 27-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with careless driving and failing to stop for a school bus with its stop arm extended. He’s scheduled to appear in court in Blind River on Aug. 18.
