1 Dead Following EB Hwy. 401 Collision Near Port Hope ONroute
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near the Port Union ONroute service centre — east of Oshawa — on May 30, 2026.

What Happened?
- The incident took place east of Newtonville Road at approximately 11am ET on May 30.
- According to officials, a driver parked their vehicle on the shoulder and exited the vehicle. A second vehicle then collided with the parked vehicle and the driver.
- The individual was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre in critical condition. Unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries and were later pronounced dead.
- OPP confirmed that the second vehicle remained at the scene.
Investigation Updates
The collision remains under investigation. It’s unclear if charges are pending.
