Federal Government Working to “Bring Back” Laid-Off Algoma Steel Staff
What’s Happening at Algoma Steel?
Industry Minister Mélanie Joly recently confirmed that the Government of Canada is working to “bring back” Algoma Steel staff affected by the company’s sweeping job cuts in March 2026.
Joly claims she’s received 2 commitments from the steelmaker that it would add 500 new jobs this year to keep up with the demand for projects related to nation building.
