CBSA Scraps Plan to Move 1,200 Workers to Downtown Ottawa Office

What’s Happening at the CBSA?

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is no longer planning to relocate approximately 1,200 employees to a new office in downtown Ottawa.

In July 2025, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) made a proposal that would’ve moved staff working in Tower B at Place Vanier to 300 Slater Street by April 2027.

However, the federal government’s decision to require most public servants work in office 4 days a week in July, 2026, rather than 3 days, forced the CBSA to scrap the plan — citing that there wouldn’t be enough space to accommodate affected employees.

As for other federal departments, the updated return-to-office (RTO) mandate has left some scrambling to figure out if they’ll be able to handle the summer surge of public servants.
