A 62-year-old man is dead after being struck by a utility pole that fell following a 2-vehicle collision near RioCan Marketplace in North York on March 6, 2026.

What Happened?
- The incident — involving a Volkswagen Tiguan and an Acura MDX — took place in the area of Steeles Avenue West and Gerry Fitzgerald Drive, near Dufferin Street, around 6:45pm ET on March 6.
- According to Toronto police, the driver of the Acura MDX ran a red light at a high rate of speed as the Volkswagen Tiguan was making a left turn. The collision resulted in a utility pole in the northwest corner of the intersection falling and striking a pedestrian, who was pronounced dead.
- The driver of the Acura MDX abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
