“Window Sitting” Beneficial for People with Type 2 Diabetes, 2025 Study Claims
“Window sitting,” or spending time near a window, seems to improve blood sugar control in people with Type 2 Diabetes, according to a new study.
Joris Hoeks and his team at Maastricht University in the Netherlands recruited 13 diabetics with an average age of 70. The individuals spent 4.5 days in a room where they were solely exposed to natural light, through large windows, between 8am and 5pm.
The test, which didn’t prevent the participants from taking their usual medications, found their blood sugar levels remained within a healthy range 50% of the time.
Hoeks and his team conducted another test, only exposing the same participants to artificial light, which saw healthy blood sugar levels only 43% of the time.
While further studies are needed, health experts claim “the importance of daylight is only slowly beginning to be appreciated.”

Disability Benefits for Diabetes in Canada
Diabetes can have a profound impact on an individual’s ability to perform their job duties — even with appropriate treatment.
For Canadians who can’t work due to this debilitating condition, short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) benefits can provide a crucial financial lifeline.
How These Benefits Help
- STD: Provides temporary financial support for individuals unable to perform their job duties.
- LTD: Offers income replacement for individuals unable to return to work for an extended period of time.
To qualify for STD or LTD benefits, medical documentation is essential to demonstrate how your condition prevents you from working.
Sadly, insurance companies often deny legitimate LTD claims — including in cases involving diabetes — adding unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.
